Abstract Background The COVID19 pandemic has affected the types of trauma being operated on by Orthopaedic surgeons. Lifting restrictions pertaining to sports saw a sudden return play for many people after period inactivity. Achilles tendon ruptures are associated with these episodic athletes. In our institution, we appeared have large number injuries within short space time. We hypothesised that Phase 3 “Lockdown”, where all were allowed return, led increased rupture rates vs. same in 2019 due prolonged Method Data from electronic theatre logbooks operations performed 27th March 2020 (Lockdown begins) 31st July and was collected. Results 772 cases 2019. There 17 (2.2%). 14 occurred 3. 555 2020. 13 (2%). 11 Conclusions Overall, there greater rate equivalent “Lockdown” 8 occurring month July. This authors believe they more frequently. conclusion, subsequent inactivity does not increase rupture.
